Imagine Communications to Demonstrate Industry's Most Scalable Multiscreen IP Video Delivery Solutions at SCTE's Cable-Tec Expo '11

New Hybrid Transcoding Methodology Allows Operators to Deliver and Monetize on the Growing Demand for Multiscreen Video Viewing

SAN DIEGO, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 11/07/11 -- Imagine Communications, a leading innovator in advanced digital video solutions, today announced plans to demonstrate the industry's most scalable and efficient multiscreen IP video delivery solutions at SCTE (Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers) Cable-Tec Expo® 2011 in Atlanta, Nov. 15-17.

In booth #1532, Imagine will demonstrate live multi-format video streaming to multiple tablets using the company's ICE® Streaming System. This powerful new video processing platform combines leading picture quality and unlimited scalability with full support for integrated fragmentation, encryption and HTTP streaming, allowing operators to deploy multiscreen services on the same high availability platforms used to deliver industry-leading HD (high definition) and SD (standard definition) broadcast transcoding.

Fueled by the growing popularity of tablets, smartphones and Internet video content viewing, IPTV services are expected to generate $20 billion in extra revenues over the next four years, according to research firm Ovum. Digital TV Research recently reported that global revenues from over-the-top (OTT) TV and video services is expected to skyrocket to $21.52 billion in 2016 from $3.48 billion in 2010.

"More and more households are watching TV online and on mobile devices like the popular tablets and smartphones," said Imagine's VP of Product Marketing Chris Gordon. "As the demand to watch TV on multiple devices continues to grow, consumers' priorities are shifting from a 'good enough' video quality experience to a demand for an HD-quality viewing experience across all devices. This requires today's multiscreen service providers to differentiate their service offerings with quality, but to also carefully manage bandwidth per service. Consumer's choice of service provider will be based on both the quality of the video as well as the quantity of movies that can be delivered under a defined data cap. In order to effectively compete with both quality and quantity, operators need better video transcoding products to stay ahead of the curve."

Show attendees will see Imagine's powerful and scalable multiscreen IP video solutions in action, including:

  • ICE Streaming System, Imagine's new network-side transcoding video processing platform, allows multiscreen service providers to deliver uncompromised video quality across multiple devices, with unmatched compression efficiency. A fully integrated, high-density solution, the ICE Streaming System boasts an unprecedented support for up to 1000 stream-aligned multi-profile transcodes from a single carrier-class blade system platform.

  • ICE Broadcast System, a powerful video processing solution providing video service providers for IPTV, broadcast multiplexing and SDV (Switched Digital Video) staging the ability to deliver a superior viewing experience and picture quality, while realizing the most efficient network resource utilization.

Both video processing platforms are based on Imagine's widely deployed ICE Video Platform, which today serves thousands of live streams to over half of all US digital cable subscribers and is recognized as the industry's most powerful multi-codec, multi-rate, multi-resolution video processing platform.

Gordon continued, "Our ICE Video Platform is a unique hybrid software/hardware architecture that not only marries the power of hardware with the flexibility of software, but enables service providers to deploy a single unified carrier-class platform for all of their video processing, guaranteeing the highest picture quality for the living room as well as to the increasingly popular tablets and smartphones."
