Big Picture for Big Data

Big Data has been gaining steam recently. According to Visible Technologies, the use of the "Big Data" term in US was increased by more than 12 times in the last 12 months. Inevitably, Big Data also introduces bigger challenges. It has become a big issue faced by every organization as to how to systematically assess the aptness of Big Data and how to effectively take advantage of Big Data. It is vital to take a holistic view on this topic and employ a methodical approach of strategization and execution.

An overarching framework consists of 4 stages in an incremental fashion: Feasibility, Roadmapping, Operationalization, and Governance (FROG).
  1. The first Feasibility stage performs the suitability evaluation along with comprehensive risk assessment and impact analysis.
  2. In the Roadmapping stage, the target state is formulated, which drives the formation of a phased plan. The Big Data lifecycle model is established with the metrics defined.
  3. The Operationalization  stage deals with the SDLC process, Reference Architecture, and readiness boosting for accelerated ramp-up.
  4. In the final Governance stage, an efficient organization model is implemented with right resources retooled and pragmatic program management routines.
